Marianna is a bioethicist and regulatory expert in human research protections. She has previously served as a Senior Advisor within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Human Research Protections. Marianna holds advanced degrees in Philosophy and Health Policy from York University.

Raquel Castro
Raquel supports 1Day Sooner’s volunteers and participants through outreach and engagement initiatives. She has experience in the nonprofit health sector and a background in Communications and Project Management. Based in Barcelona, she speaks Portuguese, English, French, Spanish, and Catalan.

Danni Cerezo
Danni is the Events Manager at 1Day Sooner, where she oversees our global programming and helps bring our mission to life through events around the world. From coordinating logistics to building connections, Danni is all about creating impactful, unforgettable experiences for our communities. She holds a BS in business administration and is a certified PMP (project management professional).

Alastair Fraser-Urquhart
Alastair is a former COVID-19 human challenge study volunteer. His research at 1Day Sooner focuses on indoor air quality and pandemic preparedness. He studies cancer biology at Imperial College London.

Zacharia Kafuko
Zach is the Director of 1Day Africa. His work focuses on global vaccine equity and the integration of developing countries into modern medical research. He is a molecular biochemist and an Arizona State University Mandela Washington Fellow.

Philip Kenol
Philip has a background in global health policy, advocacy, and partnership building, with a focus on accelerating the development of and access to lifesaving health technologies. Prior to joining 1Day Sooner, Philip led multilateral policy and advocacy at the Global Health Technologies Coalition, working with WHO and other global institutions to advance health R&D and equitable access.

Taylor Livelli
Taylor is based in Alexandria, Virginia. She studied Political Science at Virginia Tech and graduated in the spring of 2020. She has worked mainly in health policy and advocacy, and has a passion for public health.

Circe McDonald
Circe coordinates 1Day Sooner’s work on the hepatitis C controlled human infection model studies. Prior to joining 1Day Sooner, Circe researched neglected tropical and viral diseases first as a bench scientist and then as a bioinformatician. They hold master’s degrees in public health and computer science.

Maggie Mercer
Maggie is the People Operations Lead at 1Day Sooner, where she helps build and sustain the systems and culture that enable the team to thrive. She has a background in operations and project management from the international development sector, and holds a master’s degree in International Conflict Resolution from American University.

Tess is the Communications Lead at 1Day Sooner. Before joining 1Day Sooner, she spent 15 years in academia. She holds a PhD in the History of Science and Medicine from Yale University.

Paul Zimmer-Harwood
Paul is responsible for research and coordination on scientific issues related to our advocacy for hepatitis C human challenge studies and vaccine development. He has a PhD in neuroscience at the University of Oxford.
