Project Lead — CTD Commons
The Opportunity
CTD Commons is a new effort to build the first open-access library of Common Technical Documents (CTDs), the regulatory dossiers submitted to the FDA by drug sponsors. CTD Commons aims to preserve and publish CTDs from failed drug development efforts as a public good. This project lead position is an opportunity to help create a new institution aiming to become a major piece of public-interest infrastructure for drug development. The project lead’s objective is to lead CTD Commons through its initial planning period, and create the momentum and proof points needed for a successful public launch. A successful first year could lead to continuing with CTD Commons after launch in a senior leadership role or moving into a special projects development role building similar initiatives.

- Role type: Full-time, remote – 1Day Sooner has no offices. Travel up to 10%.
- Reports to: Josh Morrison, President
- Location & work eligibility: We are looking for US-based candidates with unrestricted U.S. work eligibility (we are unable to sponsor visas at this time). Hire must be able to generally work 10am–4pm Eastern to overlap with staff across time zones.
- Compensation: Depending on background and experience, we expect salary to fall in the range of $100,000-130,000.

Position Responsibilities
- Build CTD Commons during the planning period: Lead the initial sprint to prove the project can work; generate concrete wins that can anchor the public launch.
- Source and acquire CTDs from philanthropic donors, bankrupt biotechs, patient advocacy organizations, and potentially zombie biotech funds, concentrated in one or more disease areas. Test whether bankruptcy acquisition can become a repeatable, cost-effective channel.
- Ensure incoming CTDs are worth acquiring, either directly or through delegation.
- Develop donor partnerships: Work with philanthropic funders to unlock CTDs already in their networks and encourage adoption of standard CTD-donation language in future grant agreements.
- Coordinate with 1Day Sooner’s Clinical Trial Abundance team on advocacy that could require CTD sharing or create strong incentives for it.
What We’re Looking For
Strong candidates will have many of the following:
- Mission-driven: motivated by 1Day’s mission, vision, and values and excited about having an entrepreneurial role in launching new public-interest infrastructure.
- Track record of getting a new initiative off the ground quickly, ideally in an ambiguous or early-stage environment
- Background in a startup or other zero-to-one effort, whether in operations, programs, business development, or a similarly execution-heavy role
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to build support for a new initiative
- High reliability, diligence, and follow-through
- Ability to learn the CTD and associated regulatory landscape quickly
Bonus (not required):
- Prior experience with common technical documents

How We Hire
The full hiring process for roles at 1Day Sooner generally involves:
- Submitting a resume and cover letter
- An initial remote interview
- Further remote interviews with additional team members
- Invitation to take a paid-by-hour work trial to simulate the work you would do if hired and/or evaluate certain skills important for success in the role
- All of our work tests are created “in house” and closely resemble actual work done by staff
- Reference checks
- A final employment offer
When we make an offer to a candidate, our offer includes a trial period of up to four months. We generally hope to make a long-term offer by the two month mark, but if we don’t, we offer two additional months of employment (in effect, as severance). Employees receive full benefits during the trial period. Out of all staff who have been hired with a trial period, 80% have remained past the trial period, 10% chose to leave during the trial period, and 10% were not retained past the trial period.
