January 26, 2026– CTD Commons Launches to Unlock Biotech’s “Lost Archive” and Accelerate Medical Innovation
CTD Commons is a new open-access initiative designed to recover, preserve, and share regulatory filings from defunct biotechnology companies. These dossiers contain detailed information about drug chemistry, manufacturing, preclinical studies, and clinical trial results. By leveraging U.S. bankruptcy law and A.I. technology, CTD Commons will transform decades of previously inaccessible scientific and regulatory data into a public resource for researchers, startups, and policymakers.
Ruxandra Tesloianu, PhD, one of the project’s leaders and author of Biotech’s Lost Archive, appeared recently on the Complex Systems Podcast in conversation with Patrick McKenzie. Their conversation explored how access to these archives—and the use of A.I. to analyze them—could reshape the future of drug development and regulatory science. She elaborated on her vision for the CTD Commons:
“All of this incredibly valuable information that could help other companies develop drugs better, that could help academics study clinical development, that could help policymakers understand what’s actually happening in clinical trials … is bundled together, and the FDA can’t release any of it. The Common Technical Document Project is essentially trying to change that … by creating a system where companies can voluntarily share parts of their regulatory submissions that don’t contain trade secrets. It’s just process knowledge, and if you share that, it would be hugely beneficial to the entire field.”
